The Indonesian Athletics Association (PASI) finally appointed May. Jend. Purn Zacky Anwar Makarim as the acting chairman (plt) of the general chairman, after the position was previously carried by Alm. Bob Hasan. Zacky Makarim will carry out the mandate until the end of PB PASI service period 2016-2020.
Since Bob Hasan died last March, PB PASI has been without a leader. So it was decided on Thursday (02/07) through a virtual meeting involving all provincial administrators throughout Indonesia, that PB PASI appointed Zacky Makarim, who had previously served as Chair of the Organizational Field at the parent athletic sport in the country.
Explained by PB PASI Secretary General Tigor M Tanjung, with the increasing number of events in 2021, and immediately requiring various preparations, such as the concentration of national training, which also requires various coordination with parties outside PASI, then the figure of the Chairperson is needed.
“To anticipate external activities such as the MOU with the Ministry of Youth and Sport for the national training fund, a figure of a general chairperson or at least a PLT chairman is needed,” Tigor said, as quoted by Akurat.co.
Tigor explained further, that although many sporting events did not take place in 2020 due to the co-19 pandemic, preparations for the National Pelatnas must continue. Moreover, at this time the government has also opened wide doors for sports that will carry out training camps, to face various multi events in the coming year.
The main multi-event that PB PASI will face is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which was supposed to be held this month, but was postponed by the Japanese government and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last March. The Tokyo Olympics are rescheduled for the upcoming July 23-August 8, 2021.
Meanwhile, Zacky Makarim himself stated that he was ready to carry out the mandate as the Acting Chairman of PB PASI, and as much as possible continue the Chairman previous assignments, until the congress in December 2020.
“But I am sure, we will all fight together to raise Indonesian Athletics, the parent of all sports, regards Sports,” said the man who is also the uncle of the Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim.
Until now PB PASI has not yet held a Pelatnas, after last March they decided to disband the Pelatnas and send all athletes and trainers to their respective areas, in order to avoid the co-19 pandemic.
