Squash is an unique sport. This sport is similar with tennis, but the player is at the same field. Using rackets, players bounce the ball into the wall indoors. This sport is played singly or double.
This sport originated in England in the mid-19th century and became popular after it was played in many schools, clubs and individuals. The first squash court was built in England around 1865. The squash court was even built inside the RMS Titanic in 1921.
The world squash organization under the name International Squash Rackets Federation (ISRF) was formed in 1967, and renamed the World Squash Federation (WSF) in 1992. Currently, this organization oversees 149 member countries. In Indonesia, this branch is under the organization of PB Persatuan Squash Indonesia (PSI).
The squash contingent was contested for the first time at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok Thailand. Unfortunately at the Asian Games, Indonesia has never won a medal from this contingent. In the 2018 Asian Games, all squash matches will be competed in one of the venues at Gelora Bung Karno complex.
