After a failure in the AFF 2018 Cup, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) took a quick step to replace the series of coaches in the team. The name that came out and was named the leader of the national team, coach Simon Mc Menemy. The official announcement of the appointment of national team coaches was conducted at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (12/20).
PSSI Deputy Chairman Joko Driyono said, the decision to appoint Mc Menemy had been through the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) meeting. Besides Simon, Indra Sjafri was also elected as the U-22 national team coach and Bima Sakti who now serves as the Under-16 coach.
“PSSI, which includes Exco, has all agreed and determined several trainers who will handle the national team. For the men’s senior national team coached by Simon McMenemy, the U-22 national team for the SEA Games 2019 which will be trained by Indra Sjafri, and Bima Sakti becomes the coach of the U-16 national team, “Joko Driyono said, as quoted by Bola.com.
The Scottish coach began his career in Indonesia by handling Mitra Kukar in the Indonesian League 2011. Then later trained Pelita Bandung Raya in 2013 before anchoring at Bhayangkara FC in 2017.
