Athletic Sports are ready to get ready to repeat Indonesia’s success at the 2017 Malaysia SEA Games. With the current quality of athletes, the Great Management of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI) is optimistic that they can buy up the 2019 SEA Games medal in the Philippines, 30 November to 12 December.
For information, Indonesia managed to secure 5 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 3 bronze medals at the 2017 SEA Games. These achievements made Athletics a sport with the most medal contributions at the time.
“I don’t want to change my position to be the most medalist like in the 201 SEA Games. I want as many medals as possible to keep my athletic marwah as a sports parent,” Mustara said as the manager of the Indonesian athletics team for the 2019 SEA Games.
On the other hand, these achievements were not enough to make Indonesia the overall champion. Indonesia is still far behind Vietnam who managed to package 17 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze from the athletics branch alone.
On the other hand at the SEA Games this time Indonesia is targeting at least four gold medals. Mustara acknowledged that the four gold pegs were the most mature targets that could be achieved.
“We are targeting gold medals from Agus Prayogo (10 km long men’s run), Emilia Nova (women’s 100 meter hurdles), Hendro Yap (20 km men’s fast road), and men’s 4×100 meter Relay Team,” explained Mustara.
Of course four gold is not the final target, because many other Indonesian athletes have the potential to gain medals in each of their numbers.
Indonesia actually has a chance to get more medals by lowering Muhammad Zohri. However, the fastest Indonesian athlete was not demoted to provide opportunities for other young athletes. Indonesian athletic sport itself sends 35 athletes to the 2019 SEA Games with a composition of 60 percent are young athletes.
