The¬†surprise occurred in the Thomas Cup simulation, where the young pair Daniel Marthin / Leo Rolly Carnando defeated the Indonesian Team’s flagship pair The Minions, Kevin Sanjaya / Marcus Gideon, in the second match of the tournament with two straight sets (21-16, 21-17) on Thursday 3 September 2020.

Daniel / Leo themselves are members of the PBSI junior national training team, they gave a surprise, by overcoming the world number one pair Kevin Sanjaya / Marcus Gideon. This result also succeeded in doubling the Garuda team’s lead to 2-0 over the Harimau team.

The success of Daniel / Leo cannot be separated from their hard work to keep trying to put pressure on their seniors from the start of the match. Even though they changed field positions in the second set, Daniel / Leo did not lose their concentration, still applying tactical pressures. Even though in the second half, The Minions started to find their rhythm, Daniel / Leo remained on top of them, finally finishing the match with a victory.
