Indonesian Waves Surfing Association (PSOI) prepares to send six athletes to the ISA World Sufring Games 2020 in El Salvador until May 9-17, 2020, to win tickets to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Six surfers who will depart for El Salvador consist of: Rio Waida, Oney Anawar, Ketut Agus, Kailani Kusuma, Tania Angel and Dhea Natasha.
“There are still five slots (Tokyo 2020 Olympics) that will be contested in El Salvador. The ISA championship is also an Olympic qualification indeed, “PSOI Chairperson Arya Sena Subiakto said at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Tuesday (10/03) as reported by Antara.
Reflecting on the rules of the Indonesian Surfing Association (ISA) related to Olympic qualifications, there will only be 20 slots that can perform in Tokyo, namely 10 male surfers, and 10 female surfers.
The 20 quota can be contested through two channels. The first through the top 10 in the world, the World Surf League Championship Tour. Second, through the qualification pathway which is held once a year.
Arya hopes that Indonesian Team surfers can win at least one ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, from five quota in the El Salvador championship. Moreover, this championship is the last qualifying surfing, before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“I still believe that athletes like Rio Waida who are now ranked 11 in the world can qualify for the Olympics. “We also have Oney who yesterday won gold at the 2019 SEA Games, and also Ketut Agus and Dea Natasha,” continued Arya Sena.
Surfing or surfing, is one of the five new sports that the World Olympic Committee (IOC) has inaugurated to be competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
