Stadion Madya Gelora Bung Karno

Approaching Asian Games 1962’s celebration, Indonesia built a complete sports complex in the Senayan area. As a complement to the main stadium, the government built a stadium for swimming, tennis, and a special stadium for athletic sports. Senayan, was chosen as the venue for the construction of the sports complex, being located between the city center and the developing area of the time, Kebayoran Baru.

Reported by, Stadia Madya (formerly called Small Training Football Field (STTF)) with a capacity of 20,000 spectators was completed in December 1961. The stadium stands in an area of 1.75 hectares with a long axis of 176.1 meters, a short axis of 124.2 meters and is equipped with 2 tribunes; the western tribune with a capacity of 8,000 spectators and an eastern tribune with a capacity of 12,000 spectators.

Currently, the stadium only has a capacity of 10,000 people. The stadium is also undergoing renovations to welcome the 2018 Asian Games. Despite having turned into an international standard stadium, the outward appearance of the Madya Stadium will be maintained. This because the stadium is one of the cultural heritage buildings.
