Six boxers who are now joining the National Olympiad continue to strive to develop skills, techniques and strategies to welcome the match at the Paris World Boxing Championship, France (13-20 May 2021). This championship is also the last chance to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, as a final qualifying event.
Six boxers who are currently being forged in the National Pelatnas are, Aldom Sugoro (Flying Class), Gill Mandagi (Bantam Class), Luki Hary (Bantam Class), Faran Papendang (Light Welter Class), Mikhail Puspita (Middle Class), SIlva Ratuliu (Class Bulu) and Ruswatun (Light Class).
“There are six boxers that we are preparing to play in the 2021 World Championship as well as winning tickets to the Tokyo Olympics. Currently, they are undergoing training at the HS Boxing Camp Ciseeng Bogor, West Java, ”said Olympic Boxing National Training Training coach Hermensen Ballo in Jakarta, Thursday, September 24, 2020, as quoted by Tempo.co.
Before finally leaving for Paris, the six boxers will first enter a special training camp (TC) abroad, in order to increase their flight hours competing and to get to know more about the various characters of their opponents. It’s just that the former national boxer is also not sure when his students will leave, because it is related to the current pandemic situation.
“The plan is for the TC to be carried out in Kazakhstan or in Ukraine. But we can’t confirm the schedule yet because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We don’t want to take risks. We just follow the government’s recommendation, “said Ballo.
Meanwhile, one of the National Pelatnas boxers, Aldom Sugoro said that he was very optimistic that he could win a ticket to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics through the World Boxing Championship in Paris in May 2021. Therefore, Aldom was determined to be able to compete all out, in order to achieve maximum results.
Aldom himself had participated in the flying class in the previous qualification and failed to win a ticket to Tokyo, in the Asian / Oceania Zone Olympic Qualification match in Amman Jordan, 3-11 March 2020.
“In Paris, it will be the last chance. So, I will do my best to get a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics. Already many of the best boxers from the European region have qualified for the Olympics. I am also optimistic that I can pass, “said Aldom.
The Indonesian team’s boxing sport at the Olympics has made a proud achievement. When three Red and White boxers have reached the quarter-finals of the universal sports party. They are Ferry Moniaga (Fly Class) at the 1972 Munich Olympics, Albert Papilaya (Middle Class) at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and La Paena Masara (Fly Class) at the 2000 Atlanta Olympics.
So that there is great hope at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, the national team boxers can equal or even exceed the achievements of these seniors.
