Indonesian’s Coach Succeed to deliver Srilanka’s Athlete to win gold at Youth Olympic Games 2018


The Indonesian contingent at the biggest youth sports special event, the Youth Olympic Games 2018 which took place in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, did not bring a gold medal to the country.

Indonesia is only able to gain a bronze medal from the weightlifting sport. While in badminton, Indonesia has also not produced results.

Although it has not yet produced results, Indonesia deserves to be proud, because there is one coach from Indonesia able to present a gold medal. This time the gold medal is not dedicated to Indonesia but to a contingent from Sri Lanka.

Tony Wahyudi is the coach of the Sri Lankan badminton team. Through his athlete Hasini Ambalangodage, he successfully presented a gold medal in the mixed team sector.

He and his team AIFA fought hard to finally win the game by getting 110 points in the final. His team consisted of seven other shuttlers from the United States, Bulgaria, Canada, Italy, India, Cambodia and Sweden.


Hasini from Vishaka College Colombo said this was a good opportunity to win a gold medal in this diverse international relay event.

“I have to play with other players in my group. Our team consisted of four boys and four girls and we had to play ten games.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Sri Lankan Badminton Management Committee Nishantha Jayasinghe said Hasini’s performance was very high.

“The last time at the same Olympics the youngster Sachin Dias took the bronze medal. At this stage, the medals are very important for Sri Lanka. Actually, so far Hasini is the only medal winner for Sri Lanka in this Youth Olympics. Se has a good future and she has received good exposure from this event, “Nishanta said.
