Indonesia sends its best lifers to take part in the World Championships which will be held on November 1st to 11th, 2018. The championship is held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Aside from being an official tournament organized by the world weightlifting organization, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), this championship is qualification event for Tokyo 2020 Olympic.
Based on the official list issued by the committee on October 27, 2018, Indonesian lifter sent to Ashgabat consisted of 5 males and 5 females. They are Eko Yuli Irawan (61 kg), Surahmat (61 kg), Deni (67 kg), Triyatno (73 kg) and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (73 kg). While the female’s section included Sri Wahyuni (49 kg), Yolanda Putri (49 kg), Sarah Anggraeni (55 kg), Acchedya Jagadditha (59 kg) and Nurul Akmal (+ 87 kg).
Quoted at the Antaranews.com Site, Joko Pramono as Deputy Chairperson of PB PABBSI said the world championship in Ashgabat is at the same time as a qualification event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Japan. This opportunity will be used by Indonesian lifter to maintain the tradition of Olympic medals from weightlifting branches.
“I, along with PB PABBSI, hope to be able to get as many athletes as possible to defend the tradition of Olympic medals. So everyone must be able to achieve maximum results, “Joko Prabowo said in his official statement in Jakarta on Sunday (10/28).
At the Rio Olympics 2016, Indonesia won 2 silver medals from the weightlifting branch. These two silver medals were achieved by Eko Yuli in the 62 kg class of male and Sri Wahyuni in the 48 kg female class.
