Badminton branch becomes one of the many gold medalists for the Indonesian contingent in the Asian Para Games 2018. The total collection of 6 gold medals was successfully donated by the Indonesian athletes. The condition spontaneously made one of the former national badminton athletes, Taufik Hidayat speaks up.
According to the gold medalist at the Athens 2004 Olympics, the enthusiasm of athletes with disabilities should be imitated by other athletes who do not have disabilities. He also considered that the spirit and motivation of disability athletes might be greater than other athletes. For Taufik spirit is the main key, while the matter of winning or losing is a later matter.
“They have a greater desire than non-disabled people, that’s what I imitate. “Even with shortcomings but they have huge enthusiasm, the matter of winning is another matter,” said Taufik, quoted by Tempo.co.
Taufik himself, also watched the badminton final at Istora, GBK Complex, Jakarta. He praised Dheva’s performance as well as Fredy, although Fredy failed he said they were both playing nicely and had high morale.
Taufik also saw another unique part at the Asian Para Games which it’s within the audience. According to him the audience did not give negative comments, even though the Indonesian contingent failed to reach the target, or medal.
“Between the Asian Games or the Asian Para Games, there is also the same spirit. So there is no difference, “said Taufik.
Not only stopped there, Taufik also appreciated the goodwill of the government as well as the association that oversees the sports of persons with disabilities. According to him, their steps are correct by not making an access dichotomy between athletes with disabilities and non-disabled.
