Leaned To Athletics at the First Asian Games

A total of two branches of sport accompanied Indonesia’s participation in the first Asian Games held in New Delhi, India, in 1951. Those are athletic and soccer. From both branches sent to the subcontinent’s country, athletics succeeded in contributing all medals earned by Indonesia at that time.

At this first edition of Asian Games,athletics played 33 championship numbers.Of the numbers contested at the National Stadium,Indonesian athletics team have won medals in 5 numbers, those are men’s high jump, men’s jump, men’s jump up, men’s javelin, woman’s throw discs, and women’s relay 4×100

The first medal for Indonesia earned by Maram Sudarmodjo from high jump. At jump up, Hendarsin earned second bronze after competed with 2 athletes from Japan. Then, A.F. Matulessy gave the third bronze from men’s javelin

While on the women’s side, relay 4×100 earned bronze medal through quartet Triwulan, Darwati, Surjowati, dan Lie Djiang Nio. The last bronze medal earned by Annie Salamun through throw discs.
