To increase youth participation in sports, the International Olympic Committee held a sports event for teenagers, known as the Youth Olympic Games. The IOC also has a vision for YOG as an event that balances sports, culture and education.
This sporting event was held for the first time in the city of Singapore, on August 14th -26th, 2010. Singapore was chosen as the host after defeated Moscow in the voting for the organizing city for YOG 2010. A total of about 3524 athletes from 204 countries participated in the first juvenile Olympics this. They competed for 202 gold medals obtained from the 26 branches that were contested.
In 2010, the Indonesian Team participated and competed with other countries. Indonesian athletes compete in 7 sports at the YOG 2010. Indonesia’s first medal from the 2010 Youth Olympic Games was the bronze medal won by Dewi Safitri in the 53 kg class.
