Two karateka will represent Indonesia in the ANOC World Beach Games which will be held in Doha, Qatar, 12-17 October 2019. The two karateka that will appear in the individual word numbers are Nawar Kautsar Mastura (women) ranked 60th in the world and Ahmad Zigi Zaresta Yuda (men) currently ranked 19th in the world.
The participation of karate athletes in the first edition of the world’s beach sporting party opens opportunities for Indonesia to get a medal. The head coach of the Indonesian Karate Team, Abdullah Kadir, stressed that the preparation of the athletes was considered perfect. The confidence of the 1993 Singapore SEA Games gold medalist and the 1999 Brunei Darussalam SEA Games increased because the two foster children as world karateka have often met with their rivals who also dropped at the 2019 World Beach Games.
“I have seen the list of karateka who appeared in World Beach Games I / 2019 where they were defeated by Nawar and Zigi in the event. That made me feel confident that Nawar and Zigi were able to realize their desire to donate a medal,” Abdullah Kadir was quoted as saying by Tempo. co.
Chef de Mission (CdM) World Beach Games Indonesia contingent, Hellen Sarita de Lima hopes that the female karate represented by Nawar can contribute medals for Indonesia.
“The participants of the World Beach Games are not arbitrary. Everything is determined based on world rankings. And, I hope Nawar will show his best to be able to realize the desire to donate a medal for the Indonesian contingent,” he said.
