Indonesian Element in the Asian Games 2018 Medal


The opening of the 2018 Asian Games is only matter of days, several preparations has been made, including medal affairs. The medal consisting of gold, silver and bronze medals will be a prize for the winner in the 4-year sports event. Every athlete will fight to exert energy in order to offer medals to his/her country. Around 4066 medals will be contested by athletes from 463 branches competed at the Asian Games this time.

Some elements of Indonesia will emerge from the medal design of Asian Games 2018. According to the designer Elysa Munstar, the zinc-based alloy medal uses the basic elements of the design of the Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK). Aside from being the official logo of the Asian Games this time, SUGBK is a pride for the people of Indonesia. “GeloraBung Karno is a pride for Indonesians,” Elysa told CNN Indonesia.

Besides SUGBK, batik elements from 3 regions in Indonesia also coloring the medal design. These batiks are come from Jakarta, Palembang and Asmat. Besides adding beauty, this element is a representative element of culture in Indonesia. Erick Thohir asserted that the symbol carried by the batiks in medals showed cultural diversity in unity.
