In 1983, Indonesian women’s volleyball team won the SEA Games gold medal. The gold medal which is the only SEA Games gold medal from the women’s volleyball contingent was obtained after Indonesia defeated the Southeast Asian women’s volleyball at that time, the Philippines. Before defeated by Indonesia, Philippine women’s team is the defending champion at SEA Games for 3 years in a row.
Since it was held in 1977, Indonesia and The Phillipines always enter the final round. Unfortunately, in the final 3 SEA Games, Indonesia must be satisfied to be runner up. It was only at the 1983 SEA Games held in Singapore, Indonesia finally won and achieved the gold medal. This achievement then can not be matched yet by the next generation.
