Indonesia Ranks Third at World’s Pencak Silat

Indonesia ranks third in the final medal in the 18th World Pencak Silat Championship 2018. The event was held at OCBC Arena, Singapore Sports Hub, December 13th -16th, 2018.

In the final standings, Indonesia is in position 3 under the hosts Singapore and Vietnam. In total, Indonesia won 5 gold medals, 5 silver and 5 bronze. This result was achieved from the results of art pencak silat and kumite.

In art numbers, Indonesia won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. The gold medal in this category is presented by the women’s team which ridden by Eni Tri Susilowati, Riva Hijriah and Riana Oktaviani. In the Kumite number, 4 gold medals won by Komang Harik in the men’s E class, Sudi Wiradinata in the men’s F class, Dyah Purnamasari in the women’s free class, and Suci Wulancari in the women’s class A.

The pencak silat world championship in Singapore contributed total of 24 gold medals. Indonesia sent around 30 young fighters. As quoted from suaramerdeka.com, the results achieved by Indonesia were in accordance with the expected target.

“The achievement of the five gold medals is according to the target set by the Executive Board of the Indonesian Silat Association (PB IPSI), before we leave for Singapore,” said the head coach of the Indonesian Pencak Silat National Team, Indro Catur, Monday (12/17).
