Indonesia is continuing to try to get as many athletes as possible to compete at the 2020 Olympics. Until April, 74 athletes are still struggling to qualify for the world-class sports event held between July 24 and August 9 2020.
Until now, only 6 Indonesian athletes have been declared qualified for the Olympics to be held in the City of Tokyo, Japan. The six athletes are Lalu Muhammad Zohri from the athletics branch, Eko Yuli Irawan and Windy Cantika Aisah from the weightlifting branch, Vidya Rafika from the shooting branch, and Riau Ega Agatha and Diananda Choirunisa from the archery branch.
Quoted from CNN Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari as chairman of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC) said that Indonesia’s target is to get more athletes out of the number of Indonesian athletes who qualified at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
“Our highest momentum was in 2000 in Sydney. At that time we sent up to 47 athletes. After that 38 athletes in Beijing, 24 athletes in Athens, 22 athletes in London and 28 athletes in Rio de Janeiro,” said Okto.
In addition, Okto hopes, the Red and White Team can bring home more than one gold medal at the four-year sports event.
