Gelora Bung Karno, Indonesia’s Sports Showcase

Indonesia will hold the Asian Games again in 2018. This Asian sporting event is the second time held in Jakarta after 1962. Having return to this place again, Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) will be the opening and closing place for Asia’s biggest sporting event this year.

Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium is a stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is part of the sports complex Bung Karno Sports Center.The stadium built in Senayan area was built for two years, from 1960 to 1962. President Sukarno staged the first pole of the stadium prepared for the Asian Games on February 8th, 1962.

In addition to being the host of the Asian Games , a lot of local and international sports events held in the stadium with current capacity of 76 thousand spectators. The magnificent stadium built by Frederik Silaban, the architect, and was completed in 1962.

Precisely on July 21st, 1962, Soekarno inaugurated the stadium which at that time had a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
