The Indonesian Team Athlete Ambassador who is also theAsian Games 2018’s gold medalist from the 62 kg weightlifting sports class, Eko Yuli Irawan, Saturday (22/9) officially opens the program, 1 Gold, 1 Library. Paired with the Tanoto Foundation, the Rio de Janeiro Olympic silver medalist described his experience at SDN 011, Sering Barat, Pelalawan, Pangkalan Kerinci, Riau.
The man who was born in Lampung on July 24th, 1989 claimed that he was nervous when he had to tell a story in front of students at SDN 011. He was reading a tale entitled “Si Rama-Rama”, Eko said, “This was more excited than competing, because this is my first storytelling’s experience, while I compete more often.”
“Storytelling turned out to be more difficult than lifting barbells,” said Eko to the Indopos.co.id page.
“I am even more pleased that I can contribute in supporting the improvement of the quality of education. Especially in developing the interest and reading ability of Indonesian children, “he added.
Since 2010 until now, the Tanoto Foundation has helped the construction of libraries in 186 schools, donated 32 thousand books and trained more than 1,800 teachers in the provinces of Riau, Jambi and North Sumatra. And for this year the program of 1 Gold 1 Library will be held in 30 Primary Schools in these provinces.
