After successfully contributing gold at the 2018 Asian Games, Eko Yuli will again defend the Indonesian banner in international tournaments. This time, the lifter from Lampung will go to the World Championship which will be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, from 1st to November 10th, 2018.
In this championship, Eko will depart with 9 other colleagues who will also defend Indonesia and try to qualify for the Olympics. Because, the world championship this time, is one of several tournaments that become the qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
To Tribun News, Eko set a target to enter the top 8 in his class. In the list of participants released on the web www.iwf.net, this 29-year-old man will drop in 61 kg class. This class is 1 kg below Eko’s specialization classes at the Asian Games 2018 and the previous Olympics 2016.
“For Olympic qualification, at least must qualify for the last eight (world championship). Each championship must enter the big 8, there are some matches we have. Well, if at least 3 times enter the big 8, we enter the Olympics, “explained to Tribunnews.com, October 22, 2018.
However, this big 8 target seems to be a minimal target. Eko will try his best and bring medals to Indonesia at the world championship this time.
“The point is we make it to the Olympics, but if there’s a chance to win gold medal, why don’t we try, because this is a new number. All new so we are still trying again, “he continued.
At the Rio Olympics, Eko became one of Indonesia’s representatives who managed to contribute medals. Together with his colleague, Sri Wahyuni, they contributed 1 silver medal each.
