The Indonesia Basket League [IBL] 2018/19 season could be the last gait for Mei Joni, a player from the Stapac club in Jakarta. He plans to retire at the end of this season. But, there is one desire before Mei decides to retire.
Mei’s wishes don’t have anything to do with Stapac Jakarta or IBL 2018/19 season. It is related to the Indonesian basketball national team. Mei wants to appear at the Sea Games 2019 before finally retiring as a basketball player.
“The plan is indeed [retired]. Beginning in 2019 I’ll start to apply for job applications. However, I don’t know yet how, just go with the flow, “said Mei, who claimed want to have a career outside the world of basketball.
Even so, Mei claimed he doesn’t expect too much. Mei will focus more on preparing what he will do after retiring from basketball. However, if the call from the national team arrives, the 29-year-old player will always be ready.
“If I don’t have a new job yet, I’ll give my best for the national team, “said Mei.
Mei Joni’s potential in the basketball national team squad at the Sea Games 2019 which will be held in the Philippines is actually wide open. Because, in the final of the IBL Gojek Tournament pre-season 2018, Mei Joni was chosen as the best player or MPV.
But, on the other side, Mei Joni realized that he is no longer young. He must compete with young Stapac players in Jakarta. “All players are hoping to get minutes to play. I will try to play well in every match, “he said.
Mei Joni is not a new name for the Indonesian basketball national team. The former Hangtuah player has played for the basketball national team at the ASEAN University Games (AUG) XVIII. He has also been selected for the Sea Games 2015 and 2017.
