PSSI is trying to lobby FIFA so the 2021 U-20 World Cup schedule can get delayed. The fasting month and limited player recovery are the main reasons.
Plans for the U-20 World Cup will be held from May 20 to June 11, 2021. Along with this period, Muslims have just finished fasting during the month of Ramadan, while celebrating Eid.
PSSI General Chairperson Mochamad Iriawan conveyed that his party would propose to FIFA that it would postpone the schedule for one and a half months from the plan. But this matter, FIFA has not lowered the official decision.
“The issue of schedule (2021 U-20 World Cup), it will be later in May. Now, in May, if I am not mistaken we have just finished Ramadan, and then entering May 14-15 is Eid,” Mochamad Iriawan said, as quoted. from Bolalob.
“So I ask for a delay of one and a half months, so in July. Yes, most players are all fasting, so recovery of the players to normal conditions takes one and a half months. According to the trainers and technical team, doctors, that is the optimal time,” he added.
Besides that, the venue is currently also being prepared to the maximum by PSSI. Previously 10 stadiums were submitted by PSSI to FIFA in preparation for the 2021 U-20 World Cup. But later, only six stadiums would be chosen. The decision, will be taken by FIFA on January 25 next.
