The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) announced that there are currently 11 names of athletes who are certain to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, in the upcoming July-August.
The names of the Indonesian Team badminton players who have won tickets for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are: Jonathan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Kevin Sanjaya, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Hendra Setiawan, Mohammad Ahsan, Greysia Polii, Apriani Rahayu, Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva.
The 11 names will fill seven positions in five different competition sectors at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The men’s singles line is filled by badminton players Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie.
Both Jojo and Ginting, now both are in a safe position, the top eight in the BWF table, ranking fourth and fifth at this time. While the two Indonesian men’s doubles pair Marcus / Kevin, and Ahsan / Hendra, also no longer questionable position at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, after successfully dominating the top two positions BWF.

“For the time being, only 11 have definitely escaped,” said PBSI Secretary General Achmad Budiharto, as reported by the Antara News Agency.
Although it has confirmed sending 11 badminton players to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, PBSI will still try, so that the remaining slots from the mixed doubles sector can be filled as soon as possible. Two names that PBSI is ready to rely on are the couple Hafidz Faizal / Gloria Emanuel Widjaja.
The pair, currently ranked seventh in the BWF table. Both positions are still vulnerable to being displaced by a duet from Hong Kong and Malaysia, which is ranked eighth and ninth.
“We are targeting there will be 13 athletes who will go to the Olympics. Hafidz / Gloria, we (PBSI) will do our utmost to ensure that their position can be safe in the last eight, in order to win Olympic tickets, “Achmad Budiharto added.
The opportunity to be able to secure the Hafidz / Gloria ranking is still very open, bearing in mind that there are still four tournaments they will participate in as part of the Olympic qualifications, namely the All England, India Open, Singapore Open and Malaysia Open.
