Indonesian sprinter, lalu Muhammad Zohri became a champion in the U20 World Athletic Championship with 10.18 second. In the championship that held on July 11, 2018, at the Ratina Stadium, Tempere City, Finladia, Zohri defeated two American runners Anthony Schwartz and Eric Harrison. The two competitors recorded a time of 10.22 seconds.
Lalu Muhammad Zohri is an athlete from Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. He is 18-year-old who being prepared for the 2018 Asian Games. The 10.18 second is still lower 0.01 seconds below the 100 meter national record on behalf of Suryo Agung Wibowo.
Zohri’s achievement improves the records of Indonesia’s sprinter. In the past, Indonesia had the names of runners like Sarengat, Purnomo, and Mardi Lestari. Sarengat was a champion of the sprinter at Asian Games 1962. Purnomo had entered the ranks of the world’s elite runner after becoming the only Asian runner who appeared in the 1984 Olympics semifinals. Mardi Lestari had become the best in Asia, after breaking the Asian record at the National Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Nasional, PON) 1989.
